Lynette HarrisonLynette Harrison was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. On a visit to Maryland, she met her future husband, married in 1949 and moved to Colonial Beach, Virginia, where she has made her home ever since. Lynette raised two sons and they both are retired firefighters in Maryland. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lynette was a member and Sunday School teacher at Colonial Beach Methodist Church during the 1950’s and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Colonial Beach Fire Department for 20 years. She worked eight or nine years as a substitute teacher and ten years as a bookkeeper at the Texaco Plant in Colonial Beach. When she left the Texaco Plant, she began working with Paul Slaw at the local funeral home and has been with the business since 1981. Lynette’s years with the funeral homes have been a pleasure for her. She enjoys helping the families when they arrive, to see what they would like to have done, to help them with the visitation and the services and talk to them to make them feel comfortable. As Lynette says: “helping is what we do, plus making friends over the years helps a little, too.”
