Dear Mary and Stephen, Greg was a great colleague at Dahlgren. Greg combined the unusual talents of being technically sharp with being a great project leader. We all admired him. Greg was a great help to our Navy and Nation. I wish I knew him better outside of work. I was so sorry to hear of Greg's death. You are in our prayers.

Dear Mary and Stephen, I was so sorry to hear of Greg's death. I know that times are especially hard right now for your friends and family to embrace you in your time of grief. Please know that I'm thinking about you both. I have regretted that we lost touch when you moved from your home in Presidential Lakes. I remember our early morning walks and taking care of your diabetic dog. I remember Stephen as a very young, active, blond boy. I wanted to let you know that I made a donation in Greg's name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Also if you want to get in touch at a later date I would love to hear from you, catch up and talk about Greg and Stephen. My cell is 540-207-6270.

Thorsted Family, Greg made work fun. He could make me laugh so hard that I would cry. Lots of stories (about trips to Alaska, hunting, fishing, home made fireworks, go cart repairs, etc.), sharing his latest batch of jerky, bragging about Stephen's soccer skills, tutorials on sources of error, discussions about the evidence for creation, a courageous concern for the welfare of Marines, an undaunted motivation to do what is right and to make things right, a tender heart with a rough exterior: are all things I will remember about Greg. I cannot understand this tragedy or your grief, but "I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39). You are in my prayers. God bless you.

To all of the members of the Thorsted family, I was so saddened to hear about Greg. I remember Greg fondly from swimming with him, on both the College Heights and Quantico swim teams. He had a quick laugh, a warm smile, and amazing swimming talent. It didn't surprise me reading in his obituary that Greg had a love of fireworks. Our families, along with other swimming families, spent many July 4th's together, lighting up the sky with fireworks and celebrating Greg's birthday. I can imagine Greg lighting up heaven now, brighter than any fireworks. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, Nancy (Kennedy) Speer

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Greg Thorsted, my classmate at Courtland High School. We are never prepared for the loss of a loved one but God is always prepared to help us through. May His presence begin the healing in your heart and soul. May His love surround you with comfort only He can give in your understanding that grief never ends but it changes. Grief is not a place to stay but a passage. It is neither a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. Grief is simply the price of love.

My heart aches for the entire Thorsted clan on the loss of Greg this week. I swam with Greg at Quantico all through the late 70's and early 80's and he was charismatic even as a young man, the cool dude we wanted to be around and be like. I clearly remember his smile and his easy and natural athletic ability. A beautiful swimmer and truly nice guy. May fond memories of Greg and your life together rush to fill your hearts whenever you think of him and whenever you need it most. Peace to you all and most sincerely, Andrew Pulsifer

Dearest Sweetest Mary and precious Stephen, There are no words to bring real comfort for you both. Someone advised me in the last few months that when the pain and loss try to consume your heart and mind and it's hard to breathe some days practice deliberately saying, Thank you, God, that I had my precious husband/father for each day I had him". I know that's the last thing you feel but there is a divine comfort that comes with being thankful for the life shared with someone so special as your Greg. May God's promise, 'Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted" in Matthew 5:4.be yours. If you ever need someone to talk to, Mary, I am there for you day or night. Angela has my phone numbers. Love to you always, Bonny Blakley Newton

Mary and Stephen, My heart is with you both and your family. I’d like to share a funny and happy moment that was all Greg. We were at an FFC game, I believe somewhere in northern va, I was trying to take pictures and it was pouring! I had an umbrella between my shoulder and chin and a camera in my hands. He kept asking if he could hold my umbrella or help me as he was laughing his joyful laugh at me and cheering for my son and Stephen. I said no at least 10 times lol. Finally, he grabbed my umbrella and refused to let me say no to his help again. He was an amazing soccer dad, and so kind to Matthew and I. He was a good man
