Autumn 1962. English class. "Who I Am" speech day. A blonde girl I had noticed (everyone had noticed) walks to the podium to tell us who she is. Per protocol she writes her name on the blackboard behind her. A large flowing white capital "M" appears followed by... "a r i l y n." "That fits," I think. Now she makes another large capital "M" An "o" is next and then an "n" shows up. I wonder, "Seriously? Is this a joke?" But a white "a" is next and she is done. Marilyn Mona not Marilyn Monroe. After class I find her in the hall and we walk to lunch together. She's laughing at my Hollywood expectations and says, "What can I do? It's my name.!" Thus was born a lifelong friendship. (Fairly certain she is having tea with Audrey right about now. But that's another story.....) Noli Timere

Bill, Carrie, Joe, Joey, and Sam, We are so sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. She was a classy lady. If we weren't in Massachusetts this week, we would be sure to attend today's funeral service; We will be praying a Divine Mercy Chaplet for her today at the National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Stockbridge, Mass. Love, Mike & Kris Kuhl

My thoughts are with you all today as Marilyn is laid to rest. As a writing team, she and my father accomplished amazing things together. Their partnership, in both work and marriage, is an inspiration. They were perfectly matched and brought each other so much joy. I knew from a very young age that they had something special. May she rest in peace.

Dear Bill and family, I am so sorry of your deep loss of lovely Marilyn, but most of all I am so very sorry that I had not seen her in recent years. Embedded in my mind is her unwavering personality and great generosity. You see, when I was fighting cancer and needed blood donations, without hesitation she stepped up to the plate and donated to me. I am saddened for you and your family, but will always remember her as a strong, beautiful and life loving woman.. As you know, she is now in the arms of our Lord. May his peace be with you at this time. Most Sincerely, Mindy Lernihan
