A luncheon will follow the burial in the Parish Hall. |

Carole Dianne Hancock Barcalow passed away in the early morning of May 26, 2022. Born December 15, 1937, the fifth child of Rose Gough Hancock and Budd Hancock in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Carole lived a long and active life full of family and friends. She grew up in Dahlgren, Virginia attending grade school at the Dahlgren Naval Station School. She graduated from King George High School in 1955. Before high school graduation Carole married Francis James Barcalow in February 1955. Carole’s brother Aubrey commented in a letter written in January 1955, “Carole is engaged to a handsome Marine.” Frank and Carole welcomed their first son, Francis James Barcalow, Jr. in late October of 1955. In June of 1962 Frank and Carole welcomed their second son, Robert Shawn Barcalow. While raising her family Carole worked as a fulltime school secretary at Graham Park Middle School in Triangle, Virginia. After her sons were grown Carole worked as a secretary in Washington, D. C. for the Veteran’s Administration. Carole moved back “home” to King George after she and Frank retired. In retirement, Carole enjoyed visiting with friends from her childhood, taking walks down to the river, and going fishing. She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was known for her amazing cooking abilities. Her New Brunswick stew, popovers, and homemade rolls were everyone’s favorite. Carole was an avid reader and enjoyed her time with her book club. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Carole was preceded in death by her mother Rose, father Budd, brother Rayner Hancock, brother Gean Hancock, brother Aubrey Hancock, sister June H. Jones, and sister Rosalind Elmore. She is survived by her son R. Shawn Barcalow, his wife Christy Barcalow, grandson Davis Barcalow, and granddaughter Mildred “Molly” Barcalow; and son Frances Barcalow Jr, grandson Christopher Mejia, granddaughter Kate Lawson, granddaughter Sarah Barcalow, and great-granddaughter Ella; as well as many nieces and nephews including Nancy Pheifer (Joseph), Stephen Jones, his wife Judith and their children Samuel and Brett, Loreena Van Neida (George), Darren Elmore (Carolyn) and David Elmore (Laura).
