George Huntington “Hunt” Banister, 82, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at his home in Springfield, Virginia surrounded by loved ones. Born in Charleston, South Carolina, November 6, 1939, to Mary and Florian Banister, his family later moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University (BS) and American University (MBA). He served in the U.S. Army for eight years of active duty, including service in Vietnam, and 30 years of Reserve service, retiring as a full Colonel. Following his active duty service, he had a career with the federal government, retiring as Acting Director of Selective Service System. Upon retirement, Hunt enjoyed playing golf regularly and spending time with his family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Linda; his two daughters and their husbands, Betsy and Ryan Hannaford, and Carly and Geoff Mwaungulu; three grandchildren, Cameron, Henry and Olivia Hunt; brother, Sam Banister and wife Ginny; and loving cousins, nieces and nephew.
