It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Manley Carter, 85 of Ruther Glen, announce his passing on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Carter was a devoted husband, Dad, Papa, father-in-law, brother, mentor to so very many and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Carter. Survivors include five daughters: Judy Carter, Jacqueline Marlowe and her husband, Mark Marlowe, Janice Cooper and her husband, Lee Cooper, Jeanie Cooper and her husband, Doug Cooper, Jamie Carter and her fiancé, Chris Pitts; two sisters, Diane Luck and Linda Greer; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; his dear companion of 22 years, Barbara Dalton Dunnavant and his four-legged long time companion and trusty sidekick, Kane. Doug had retired from his full-time job of 40+ years as a locomotive engineer with CSX (formerly RF&P Railroad). Farming as a part-time profession was also one of his greatest passions.
