Bernice Mae Atkinson Thompson

Bernice Thompson, 86, departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2022. She is survived by her husband; Kenneth, three children, Rick and Mark (Karen) Kennedy and Kathy (Tim) Hart; four step children, Lorraine, Roxanna, Terrie Lynn and Wesley Thompson; five grandchildren, Rachel, Eric, Patrick, Gracie and Anna; two step-grandchildren, Tejera and Wesley, Jr.; six great- grandchildren, Guy, Emmitt, Shawna, Hartley, Isla and Hensley; four step children, Lorraine, Roxanna, Terrie Lynn and Wesley Thompson; two brothers, Raymond and Benny Atkinson; and two sisters, Ruby Merryman and Liz Ridgeway. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Annie Mae Atkinson; five brothers, Roscoe, Danny, Robert, George and Willie; two sisters, Alice June Higgins and Lillian Morrison and a grandson, Michael Jon Kennedy.  Bernice retired as a rural carrier from the US Postal Service. She was a lifelong Spotsylvania resident growing up in the Summit area and a longtime member of Massaponax Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Thursday December 22 at Massaponax Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, December 22, 2022.  Burial will follow at 2:00 at Oak Hill Cemetery.
