Ashton Allen Durrett, age 99, passed away peacefully at his home in Bowling Green on January 5, 2023. He was a long-time resident of Caroline County where he owned and operated several businesses including Coach House Furniture, Caroline Cleaners, Caroline Laundry, and Bowling Green Storage Warehouses. It seems like every small town has that one entrepreneur who has multiple businesses and succeeds at them all. That was Allen Durrett in Bowling Green and he leaves behind a long and proud legacy, both personally and professionally. Mr. Durrett was a member of Bowling Green Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, among other things. He was one of the few remaining World War II veterans in Caroline County, and a shining example of “The Greatest Generation”. He had a love for aviation and piloted his own small plane. Allen Durrett is survived by his daughter Debra Holt, granddaughter Erin Brown (Rob), great granddaughter Reese Brown and great grandson Ashton Brown. He is also survived by two stepsons, Hugh (Frances) and Bill (Sandra) Ellwood, three step granddaughters Alex, Charlotte, and Sarah Elwood, along with step grandson Adam Elwood. He was preceded in death by wives Mary Covington Durrett and Catherine Elwood Durrett. His family will forever be thankful for his support and love throughout his life. Our deepest appreciation to his caregiver, Blanche Williamson who provided love, support and care during the past seven years while she was with the family. The family will receive visitors at the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home on Sunday, January 8th from 6:00 p.m. -7:30 pm.
