Jane Adeline Fortune, 80 of Alps, was welcomed home by the Lord and reunited with her husband, Ruben Lee Fortune, on Friday, May 24, 2019. She was the daughter of, Augustus and Fannie Johnson. Due to hardships and difficult times, the children were separated, and she was placed in the loving care of the Williams Family. She attended New Hope Baptist Assembly in Essex where she was also blessed with a wonderful church family. She worked mostly as a homemaker, although held various jobs throughout her life which included a “ladder plant” in Milford, Kings Dominion one summer serving up burgers and fries, and at Fort AP Hill for several years working in housekeeping as well as food service, preparing meals for the soldiers. She is survived by her children, Keith Fortune (Lelia), Michael Fortune (Beverly), James Larry Fortune, Diane Keeney (Randy), David Matthew Fortune and Amy Delahanty (Mark); three sisters, Celestine Bundy, Doris Moore and Francis Harris; two brothers, Donald Johnson (Joanne) and Robert Brooks (Josey); brother-in-law Everette Fortune (Adele); sisters-in-law, Bernice Johnson and Mildred Fortune; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers William Johnson, Rudolph Johnson, Monroe “Pete” Johnson, Andrew Johnson and Garfield Johnson and a sister, Barbara Brooks. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30th at 3:00 pm in the Bowling Green chapel of Storke Funeral Home. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. A private burial will follow later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Assembly, 883 Popoman Swamp Road, Hustle, VA 22476.
