Lord Juan Paulo Ferrer Bordador, most known to others as “JP” or John Paul, unexpectedly
passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. His family is deeply saddened and will miss him
dearly. JP lived an exceptional life that was devoted in service to his country and to his family.
He was born on Feb 12, 1981 in the Philippines to Elizabeth Ferrer Bordador and Leonardo
Dazo Bordador, Jr. His early childhood was spent in Meycauayan, Bulacan where he attended
primary and elementary school at St. Mary’s College and La Salle Green Hills. When he was 9
years old, he immigrated with his parents & siblings to the United States, where he spent the
rest of his formative years living in Daly City, CA. He then graduated from Oceana High School
in 1999. As a young father, one of the earliest jobs he took was working for the TSA, where the
tragic events of September 11, 2001 inspired him to seek a career protecting his country. On
November 23, 2004, at the age of 23, JP enlisted into the United States Army as a
Counterintelligence and Force Protection Special Agent, kickstarting a triumphant career that
spanned almost 2 decades. His military service took him to many parts of the world, from
countries like Japan, Germany, Korea, Iraq, Russia, Israel, Canada, Belgium, France and more.
While stationed in Okinawa, Japan he met his wife, Mayumi in 2014. He settled down with her in
Severn, Maryland where he built a home for all of his children. JP was a devoted father, a loving
husband, a dedicated son, a wonderful brother, and a thoughtful friend.
JP attended Basic Training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training at
Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Upon graduation, he attended the Basic Airborne Course at Fort
Benning, Georgia and was assigned to the 500th Military Intelligence Brigade, Camp Zama,
Japan. His military education included the Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic NCO
Course; Advanced NCO Course; Airborne School; Master Resilience Training; TSCM Advanced
Concepts Training; TSCM Course; Digital Training Management Systems Training; Jungle
Warfare School; CI-HUMINT Operations Management; and the Basic Instructor Course. During
his tenure with the 10th Regional Support Group, US Army Japan, he served as the S3
Operations NCOIC and as the Headquarters Company Platoon Sergeant. He directly assisted
the Company Commander and First Sergeant by overseeing daily operations. He helped
maintain the training, health, welfare, and leadership development of over 150 Soldiers, NCOs,
Officers, and their families. He was responsible for managing training, health and welfare of
personnel and their families during deployments; teaching, coaching and mentoring junior
Soldiers to be successful in management, training and physical fitness. He was recognized by
peers and leadership for reliability, follow through and tremendous personal initiative. He was
involved in a variety of community mentorship programs such as English Conversation with the
Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force, Bob Hope Primary School Reading to Kids, Bilateral
English Comprehension Exchange, Sobe Ward Sports Day and Yomitan Safety week.
JP was known to fellow soldiers as their, “most trusted non-commissioned officer,” “coach”,
mentor, and Platoon Sergeant”, “my brother, my son, and a true soldier.” “He pursued every task
with vigor and always saw the mission through to completion.” His training and experience led
him to a successful career working alongside important individuals like General Mark A. Milley
and General James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis. He worked under 4 US Presidents: President George W.
Bush, President Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, and President Joe Biden. In 2021,
he was promoted to the Pentagon as the NCO in charge of the Technical Surveillance
Countermeasure (TSCM) Program at the Joint Chiefs of Staff Security Office. He was a highly
decorated soldier who earned the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8) and numerous awards,
ribbons, and medals including: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal
(OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Achievement
Medal (4OLC), Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq
Campaign Medal (Campaign Star), Global war on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on
Terror Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service
Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon,
Overseas Service Ribbon (with Numeral 5) and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Combat Action
Badge, Parachutist Wings, and the Driver Mechanic Badge – Driver Wheeled Badge. In the end,
he devoted his life to serving his country and fighting for our freedoms.
JP was a creative, generous, and compassionate person loved by many. He wanted to give
back to his parents, so he built a suite in his home as a second home for them. He helped them
pay their bills and always checked up on them. JP also made time to help others; he helped
neighbors, friends, and even strangers, whether it be yard work, home improvements, or real
estate advice. He was dependable and reliable. He enjoyed karaoke, country music, lawn
mower races with his neighbors, ramen, cheering on the Golden State Warriors, making others
laugh, and cooking — especially barbecuing in his backyard. JP also enjoyed traveling with his
wife and kids. He strived to show them the beauty of the world, and gave them experiences that
he did not have in his childhood. Some memorable experiences include, swimming with
dolphins and dancing tinikling in the Philippines, scuba diving at Maeda Point, roaming the
streets of London, exploring the Christmas Markets in Germany, taking his family snowboarding
in Lake Tahoe and the Alps, hiking up the Neuschwanstein Castle with his nieces and nephew,
riding roller coasters with family whenever they went to Disney and Universal theme parks, as
well as visiting the Eiffel Tower and Louvre in France. For fun, he would play video games like
Call of Duty, Madden, and JackBox with his children and family whenever they got together at
his house. JP loved being surrounded by his loved ones and took pride in gathering all of his
friends and family into one space. He was a welcoming man who threw himself into whatever he
did whole-heartedly, especially his projects around the house. He naturally mentored those
around him by setting an example through his hard-work and dedication. Most importantly, JP
loved spending time with his five children. He taught his children how to prepare traditional
Filipino food, drive manual transmission cars, how to ice skate, and how to snorkel. He made
sure to teach them valuable life skills such as changing flat tires and maintaining vehicles. He
was always involved with his children’s school art projects, talent shows, and made it a point to
attend all their school, sports, and extracurricular activities. He was very proud of his children.
JP is survived by his parents Elizabeth Ferrer Bordador and Leonardo Dazo Bordador, Jr., his
sister Princess Gladys Bordador Gordon, his brother Leonardo Carlos Ferrer Bordador, his wife
Mayumi Bordador, and his five children: Keonna Marie Elizabeth Yumul Bordador (25), Lilyanna
Marie Elizabeth Yumul Bordador (18), Marcus Elijah Yumul Bordador (17), Sky Leonardo
Bordador (4), Sakura Elizabeth Bordador (1).
His memory also lives on with his nieces and nephew: Calista Lauren Bordador, David Armstrong
Gordon, Czarina Elizabeth Gordon, and Evana Libby Bordador. His brother-in-law Scott Gordon and
his sister-in-law Josie Lorenzo, as well as so many more family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, any donations to his GoFundMe would be greatly appreciated. These funds
will be put towards his children’s education. Your contributions can also be sent directly to his
