Edith Carneal Chenault Taylor, 82, of Bowling Green, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Born in Spotsylvania County, she was a long-time resident of Caroline County where she was a 1958 graduate from C. T. Smith High School in Ladysmith. She was a member of Bowling Green Baptist Church for many years and most recently, an active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Shumansville. Well-known and loved throughout the community, she proudly served with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office for thirty years. While there, she became the first female deputy sheriff in Caroline County and one of the very first in the state of Virginia (if not the first). After her retirement in 1998, she enjoyed traveling and living life to the fullest with her friends and family. She loved her children dearly, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the sparkles of her eyes. She enjoyed attending their school activities and sports events and would always find more time to spend with them. A true light when she entered a room, she knew how to make everyone feel special, and was always reaching out to help anyone that was in need or had asked. She was a popular go-to for advice on almost any subject, loved to be surrounded by friends and family, and would talk for hours on the phone. Edith was a faithful and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, and daughter of God who has most definitely heard “Well Done”. Those left behind to cherish her memories are her children David Chenault (Penny) and Susan Chenault Durrett (Dean); three grandchildren, Melissa Somers (Bobby), Eric Chenault (Leslie), and Steven Chenault (Heather); five precious great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Flora (Dean); several nieces and nephews; cousins; and other beloved extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Sarah (Seay) Carneal; husband of 32 years, Ryland Chenault; husband of 27 years, Paul Taylor; sister, Katherine Payne; sister-in-law, Shirley Lyttle Dickerson; and several very dear friends.
