Robert Powell Belcher (Bobby) of Caroline passed away at home peacefully with his family by his side on July 15, 2023. Bobby was born in Chesterfield, VA on May 24, 1942. At the age of 9, he began carrying shingles for his grandfather for 40 cents a week. He remained in the construction world moving from building houses to large buildings. He built many beautiful buildings. For 15 years, he built each new ride at Kings Dominion as a Whiting-Turner Construction superintendent. He made lots of new friends and took pride in each job done. He worked hard. He gave a day’s work for a day’s pay and was completely honest in all endeavors. You always knew where you stood with Bobby. He retired from Whiting-Turner at the age of 63. Bobby loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bobby was an excellent marksman and hunted deer, wild turkey, and quail. He earned many citations for his flounder catches, cobia, and rockfish. If the wind wasn’t blowing hard, he could be found on his Parker fishing. He remained active until his death. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, John Welton Belcher, his mother, Eleanor Rose Belcher, and his sister, Mary Catherine Vaughan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy; children, Lisa (David) of West Point, VA and Robert (Heather) of Short Pump; grandchildren, Spencer, Grey, and Ava; great-grandchildren, Davis, Lawson and Reese. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, VA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations can be made to Mary Washington Hospice c/o Mary Washington Foundation, 2600 Mary Washington Blvd., Fredericksburg, Va 22401.
