Broaddus, Dorothy Reid, 77, of Bumpass, VA, passed peacefully away at home on November 7, 2023, with her best friend and beloved husband, William W. “Bill” Broaddus, as always by her side. Growing up with 4 brothers; Farnum Thomas Reid, Jr. (Gayle), Michael Warren Reid, William Joseph Reid, and David Scott Reid (Carol), Dorothy knew early she could hold her own. Starting out as a secretary at Fort Belvoir got her into the workforce. A man’s pay grade, though, was her ambition. She sought out programs that allowed her to become an Engineering Technician testing contractors’ equipment used in various overseas conflicts. Dorothy also worked with the Corps of Engineers on the Pentagon Renovation Team and reclamation of Poplar Island on St. Michael’s Island, MD, where she retired with 38 years of service. Virginia was home base for her travels with Bill. The exception was time spent in Pennsylvania to help out during the growing years of her niece, Olivia, and nephews; Jack, Luke, and Alex. Lake Anna was, at first, a weekend camping trip that eventually became the water playground for family and friends. In 2016, the beautiful water views on the lake throughout the seasons, became her and Bill’s forever home. Thank you, Dorothy! We treasure all the memories you have left us in our hearts. Special thanks to her caregivers; Cotton, David, Debbie, and Jerrie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
