His funeral will be held at Vauters Episcopal Church, Loretto, VA, on May 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM, where he and Kathryn were proud members for many years, officiated by Rev. Al Hooker. Interment will immediately follow at the church cemetery. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to a reception in the church hall. James Warren Grinde, 98 years of age,, lived in Maple Falls, WA with his son, Gary Grinde, until his death from cancer, November 12, 2023. He was cremated and requested a funeral service in the springtime in Virginia, where he lived and worked a majority of his life. Warren was born on December 12, 1924 in Lakota, ND. His parents were Simon A. Grinde and Irene (Thomas) Grinde (both deceased) of North Dakota. His siblings are all deceased: Marguerite (Grinde) Sitar, ND; Paul Marlyn Grinde, VA; Allan Grinde, CA; and Stewart Grinde, CO. Warren married Kathryn (Reynolds) Grinde on January 13, 1943. They were happily married for 77 years until her death in 2021. They resided in Port Royal, VA for many years. Warren spent a majority of his life with Black Angus cattle and was a top cattle showman in the 50s and 60s. He won many top honors at cattle shows all over the United States. In later years he enjoyed making furniture and decorative items for their gift shop, Stitches & Things, in Port Royal, VA. He then had a lawn mowing business for many years. He was still mowing grass the week before he passed away. He and Kathryn raised 6 children: Wayne Kamryn, VA (deceased); James Eugene, TX, Bergetta Anne (Grinde) Sylvester, MI; Stephen Charles, VA (deceased); Gary Thomas, WA; and Daniel Lee, VA. Warren had numerous grandchildren, Great grandchildren, and Great, Great grandchildren.
