James Carroll Brown, Jr.

James Carroll Brown, Jr., 76, of Tappahannock passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.  He was a retired employee of VDOT.  Carroll was a lifelong farmer and member of Upper Essex Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter No. 59, Arlington Lodge A.F. & A.M. #102 and an Essex County Virginia Farm Bureau Director.  Carroll also enjoyed working at June Parker Marina following his retirement.  He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Carolyn Clark “Jeannie” Brown.

Carroll is survived by his two daughters, Christy Brown of Mechanicsville and Ashley Griffin (Rick) of Tappahannock and his three grandchildren Avery Griffin, Berkley Hammond and Harper Griffin; his aunt, Phyllis Brooks Williams; his uncle, Ray Brooks; and cousin, Dalton Carter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2024 in Upper Essex Baptist Church with the Reverend S. Roy Foster officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.  Pallbearers will be Lloyd Mundie, Ralph Elliott, Ray Brooks, Dick Bates, Nate Parker, Thomas Carneal, Dalton Carter and Barry Bates.
