Patricia (Patty) Long Smith 76 of Garden City Beach, South Carolina, died unexpectedly December 5, 2024 at an Arlington, Virginia hospital. She was born August 6, 1948 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Muntford G. and Bernice (Crews) Long. Patty grew up in Denniston, Virginia and graduated from Halifax High School, Class of 1966. Following graduation, she worked at the Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia, where she met her future husband. In March 1972, Patty married the love of her life, Steve Smith. They lived in various cities, including Springfield, Virginia, a small northern town in Germany, and ultimately retired in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Patty retired from the federal government after 29 years working in the personnel security area. Patty loved cooking, mystery books, NASCAR racing, Virginia Tech football, country music and watching the many birds from her house in South Carolina. Patty will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially Steve, with whom she recently celebrated 52 years of marriage. Surviving in addition to her husband, are her sons, Jason and his wife, Saira, of Arlington, Brian and his wife, Elizabeth, of Ashburn, and Kevin, and his wife, Gisselle, of Aldie. She is also survived by her four grandchildren Parker, Carter, Scarlett and Elena, as well as by her brothers, Mark, and his wife Nancy, Alan, and his wife, Dana, Barry, and his wife Shelby, and her sisters Dawn Bruno, Jacqueline Murray, and her husband Cameron, and Teresa Long, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
