Carl “Mac” Stephen McElwain, 79, of Montross, VA, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025. He was born on October 5, 1945 in Washington, DC, to John William and Mildred Marie (nee Rickle) McElwain. He was the second of four children. He graduated from Ballou High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army for a total of 6 years during the Vietnam War. After leaving service, he continued to serve his country as a Capitol Police Officer for 30 years, where he met his wife, Dawna (nee Sharbutt). Mac is survived by his wife, Dawna of 25 years, her son, Scott (Sarah) Weslocky and grandson, Bryce of King George, VA. Also, survived by his former spouse, Barbara Wright and daughter, Nicole “Niko” Denise McElwain Johnson (Justin) and grandson, Payton James McKinley Johnson, of Washington, DC. His older brother, John (Jeannie) McElwain of Crownsville, MD; his sister, Marilyn (Frank) Italiano of Conway, SC; his younger brother, Hugh McElwain of Richmond, VA. Seven nieces and nephews; Seventeen great-nieces and nephews; Eight great-great nieces and nephews; One great-great-great nephew. A memorial service is planned for 11 am Friday, February 7, 2025 at Storke Funeral home, King George Chapel.
