Steven Rudolph Gardiner, Sr., 72, of King George, passed away on March 4, 2025. Born in Washington D. C., to his parents James & Edith Gardiner, Steve and his family were tobacco and grain farmers in Hughesville, MD. Steve grew up on the family farm where he started his family and had two sons, Steven and Timothy. Later in life Steve moved on from the family farm to King George, Virginia and started a career in excavating. Steve was known as “Pops” to almost everyone that knew and loved him. He was a big hearted man that thought the world of his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. If you mentioned any of his kids his face would light up a room. Pops loved his sporting clay tournaments, and was an avid duck and deer hunter. After his retirement, he loved riding on the tractors cutting and baling hay; he looked forward to the spring when hay season would begin, and look out you better not be in the cab tractor when he was ready to work. Anytime a friend or family would call upon him for help with operating Pops had been battling and fighting with his health the past several years, we know he is no longer suffering but his departure still comes too soon, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him dearly. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contributions to our memorial fund in lieu of flowers and contribute by sharing memories. Steven is preceded in death by his parents, James & Edith Gardiner; and brother, Chris Gardiner. Steven is survived by his sons, Steven Gardiner Jr. (Carla) and Timothy Gardiner (Robin); sister, Cathy Alvey; grandchildren, Lindsay Mash (Drew), Kyle Gardiner (Savannah), Kaylyn Gardiner, and Kelsey Gardiner; and great granddaughter, Hartley Gardiner. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to King George Rescue Squad (8122 Kings Hwy, King George, VA 22485).
