Marjorie Helen Schock Derrick, 92 of Falls Church, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025. Married for 71 years, Marjorie’s life was dedicated to raising her loving family, serving as an educator, and devoted her time toward the betterment of community, state and national parks. She also generously supported many social causes and organizations, including the Sierra Club, Conservation International, the National Audubon Society and Nature Conservancy. She was recognized by the Director of the U.S. National Park Service with a national award for her stellar work in regulations that led to lowering heights of TV/radio antennas to reduce deaths of migratory birds. She authored a book entitled “Preliminary Observations for a Spiritual Journey”. She had published numerous letters to the editor of Florida Today, the Christian Science Monitor and the Town of Melbourne Village “Wood Pecker” newspaper. She was an active member of the Space Coast Progressive Alliance of Brevard County Florida. Her unwavering commitment to service and stewardship was evident in the numerous charitable endeavors she undertook throughout her life. Marjorie’s compassion and kindness knew no bounds, and she was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She is survived by her loving husband, John T. Derrick; her children, Phyllis Derrick, John Derrick, Jr., and Carl Derrick; grandchildren, Jaqueline Derrick-Danta, Johnny Derrick, Samantha Derrick, Shane Derrick, Carla Derrick, Ana Derrick, and Michael Derrick; great-grandchildren, Emilia Danta, Lucia Danta, and Daniel Danta. Marjorie was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Feig. A memorial service celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held on May 2, 11AM at the Arlington Community Church, in Arlington, Virginia. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Marjorie’s legacy of service, stewardship, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
