Henry C. Barlow, Sr., 94 of Ruther Glen peacefully passed Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home. He lived in Caroline County his entire life, and as a boy loved to help on the family farm which led to his love of horses and cattle. Farming also led to his participation in the Farm Bureau for many years as a Caroline County delegate in annual conventions and state legislative meetings. He worked for over 34 years with the local telephone company as it transitioned from Campbell-Terrell to CONTEL to GTE to Verizon from lineman to district manager. He was a dedicated deacon and trustee at Concord Baptist Church. He followed his father’s footsteps by serving as chairman of the cemetery committee for much of his life and became the person everyone called to mark burial plots and provide historical information. He also enjoyed providing community service as a charter member of the Reedy Church Ruritan Club and the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents Lewis W. Barlow, Sr. and Pearl Edwards Barlow; two brothers, Francis M. Barlow and Lewis W. Barlow, Jr. and three sisters, Dorothy Barlow Street Bullock, Leona Barlow Carter, and Shirley Barlow Minter. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nancy P. Barlow; his children, Diana Cocke (John), David Barlow (Ellen) and H. Clay Barlow (Cheryl); his sister, Iola; his brothers, Ray Barlow and Anthony Barlow; his grandchildren Heather (Rob), Amanda, Kelly (Trevor), Casey (Steve), Jason (Taryn) and step-grandchild Lindsey (Jeremy) and his great grandchildren Afton, Rowan, Orlin, Keean, Micah, Hayes, and a step-great-grandchild Mason. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 8th at 3:00pm at Concord Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. Capacity is limited due to COVID, therefore the funeral service will be live streamed on the Concord Baptist YouTube channel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department or Concord Baptist Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.storkefuneralhome.com. |
