Robert W. Thornburg III

Robert W. Thornburg III, 63 of Ruther Glen passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Born in Richmond, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a long career as a parts manager. He worked for 15 years with Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Richmond and currently for Utility Trailer Sales in Ashland for the past 28 years. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Crabtree Thornburg; his two daughters, Tonia Kovach (Chris) and Tiffany Thornburg (Shawn); five sisters, Anne Phillips, Nancy Miller, Carolyn Middlebrook, Patricia Leed and Cynthia Gemberling; two grandchildren, Kalli and Nathan McNair and longtime friend and “brother”, Gino Myers (Terri). He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Dorothy V. Thornburg, Jr., brother, Charles P. Smith and his step children, Jamie and Carrie Davis. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 17^th at 2:00pm in the pavilion at the Caroline Agricultural Fairgrounds, 8332 Fair Lane, Ruther Glen VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reel American Heroes Foundation, Woodbridge VA or the Emily Couric Cancer Center, Charlottesville VA.
