John Rogers Morris, Jr., 84, of King George County passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was born in Buffalo, Ny to parents John R. Morris and Alice R. Morris. John a graduate of Yale University with a degree in Business and a minor in Electrical Engineering participated in the early years of computers. His last job was at Salisbury, MD. State University where he helped established one of the first remote learning computer/telecommunication systems so common today. An Eagle Scout, John served his community in numerous of ways. Eagle Scout Review Board, City Planning and Zoning Board, various positions in his church and civic groups. Wherever John lived he served as a Volunteer Firefighter. In Milford, Ct. he served as the Captain of Company 1. Later in life he did Disaster Relief with the American Red Cross. His proudest moment with the Red Cross was the work he did during the Hurricane Katrina response. John was proceeded in death by his wife of 61 years, Barbara S. Morris, and a son Seth A. Morris. John is also survived by his sons John R. Morris, III (Lynn Sinclair) and James T. Morris (Beth); 13 Grandchildren; 14 Great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Lynn Morris-Piccolo (Mark) and a sister Ann Charlton (Read). A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday October 23, 2021, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, King George. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mary Washington Hospice, or the American Red Cross. The family would like to thank the staff at Cardinal Village and Mary Washington Hospice for all the love and care they have shown John during his battle with Alzheimer’s. An avid sailor all his life who completed part of his dream of sailing the seven seas, he will be buried at sea. “Fair Winds and Following Seas” |
