Bonnie Karen Thompson

Bonnie Karen (née Clark) Thompson, 72, a resident of Colonial Beach, passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 24th day of October in her home surrounded by her family.

Bonnie was born on April 2, 1949, in Houston, TX, to Raymond Clark and Louise (née Johnson) Meyer.  She went to school in Texas and New Jersey before graduating from high school in Bernardsville, NJ.  Bonnie married Frederick Foster in 1969, and they had four children while living in Somerville, NJ, and Nashville, TN. 

Bonnie practiced nursing for 34 years in Nashville and in the Northern Neck.  She received special recognition and numerous honors for creating specialized programs for Alzheimer’s patients in nursing facilities throughout the greater Nashville area.  Most recently, Bonnie blessed her community as a hospice nurse, caring for countless patients and their families during their last moments.

Bonnie loved to cook and was an avid baker.  Her scores of Christmas cookies were an annual favorite of her children and grandchildren.  Bonnie had a special affinity for flowers and plants, and her home and garden overflowed with vibrant plants and colorful flowers. 

Bonnie had a special place in her heart for her family and her family’s traditions, including passing on cherished family recipes to her children and grandchildren that were passed to her by her mother and grandmothers.

Most of all, Bonnie loved the Lord, which was a love that was passed to her most influentially by her grandmother, Stella Grindley.  Most recently, Bonnie was a faithful member of Hanover Baptist Church, in King George, VA, and passed her love of the Lord to her children, grandchildren, and to everyone with whom she came in contact.  Bonnie’s delightful smile brought immediate joy to all who saw it.

Bonnie  is survived by three siblings, Dennis Clark and his wife Danielle, Denise Neal, and John Meyer, her four children and their spouses, Dana Foster and Cheryl Curtis; Brandon and Lorri (née Hopewell) Foster; Scott and Rachael (née Carter) Foster; and Karen and Derek Kramer.  She was a loving ‘Mimi’ to 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Dana Clark and Sherry (née Meyer) Chandler. 

A memorial service will be held for her family and church family at Hanover Baptist Church, 10312 Hanover Church Rd., King George, VA 22485.  In lieu of flowers, contributions to ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, 5211 W. Broad St., Ste. 100, Richmond, VA 23230, would be appreciated.
