Disinterment and Exhumation Specialists In Virginia

Our firm has over 100 years of expertise and experience in all aspects of funerals, burials and cremations. We also have a long history of being counted on when families, the government or other entities need assistance with a special and complex area of our industry…disinterring and exhuming human remains.

On June 19, 1907 our funeral home’s founder Hugh Pegg was hired, by the family of Revolutionary War Hero Edmund Pendleton, to exhume the remains of Mr. Pendleton, his two wives and infant child. They were transported to Williamsburg and re-interred at Bruton Parish Church.

In 1941 our firm, while under the ownership of Jack Davis, was selected by the federal government to oversee the disinterment, transportation and re-interment of over 2500 remains from the land, which is now a part of Ft. A.P. Hill Army Installation, to two newly formed cemeteries off of the reservation. At that time, the contract was for $1,000,000.00.

Our current owner, David Storke, has over 30 years of experience and has handled hundreds of disinterments and exhumations. Whether authorized by a local government, land developer or family member, Storke Funeral Home continues to provide expertise in this area and has successfully handled this sensitive task in every part of Virginia.

The services we provide include:

  • Securing all necessary permits from the Health Department
  • Coordinating the excavation, removal, transportation and re-burial (or cremation) of the remains
  • Providing all excavation equipment and vehicles for transporting remains
  • Providing all necessary containers, caskets or vaults for re-interment
  • Moving and transporting monuments or marker associated with the disinterment

For forensic and liability/criminal cases, we have access to a Pathologist that will perform private autopsies and we have the facilities in our morgue for this to take place. For further questions or pricing,  call (804) 633-5661 or email [email protected].
