Dear Josh, I was lucky enough to share one year of my life with you, Sheila and Beth as an exchange student, almost 40 years ago. You made me feel at home from the very first day. Your British, dry humor, your half smile in your lips, your always friendly approach, the small details to make feel comfortable. I still have the small, red camara you gave me as a present with my name on it when I left ….. You will always live in my heart. Thanks for enriching my life and learning body language. Less talking , more acting. I will miss you. Enrique

Dear Sheila, Beth, John, and Morgan- although we know we won’t have our loved ones forever, we can never really prepare to lose one of them. My hope for all of you is that the passage of time will turn your tears of sorrow into bittersweet memories of all the good times you had with Josh. As for me, I will miss Josh’s stable presence at the track, his willingness to do whatever was asked of him, and how much of a mentor he was. Without him, I would never have become a decent flagger, much less feel the support and confidence needed to serve as Flag Chief for a short spell. Thanks for everything, Josh. I’ll see you around the next corner. Mike

Sra. SONRIES! (Su Plato de la coche, no?) Con regardo, Abbey Saft (Amada) KGHS c/o ‘95

Grief never ends… but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love. Many years ago, my dad taught me that as long as happy memories remain in our heart, our loved ones can never really leave us. I am certain that we all have many happy memories of Josh. Share them. Laugh, cry and remember. He will always remain in our hearts and lives that way. “A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.” Josh was well loved and his deeds and kindness will continue on in others.

We\’ve all lost a leader, inspiration and friend in Josh. I\’ve flagged for well over 40 years and Josh was an old-timer when I started out. Going to the track knowing he is gonewil lbe a totally different experience, though I know his grandson Morgan is carrying the Cockey are commitment forward. Permit me a bit of nostalgia to cite my favorite Josh Cockey quote. It dates back to the day when every FM station had to verbally identify itself hourly over the air (that\’s now done electron ically). Josh was operating a Race Control at Summit Point when, in stead of stating \”This is Control at Summit Point raceway\” he proudly and clearly announced that \”THIS IS SUMMIT POIINT RACEWAY OPERATING OUT OF CONTROL.\” He lied: race management when never out of control with him in the tower — and Josh, himself, was never out of control. JOSH RULES!!

I am sending many hugs, much love and many prayers with deepest sympathy to this sweet family. Mrs. Cockey was my Spanish teacher at King George High School. She taught us many lessons but also life lessons too. I went on to teach for many years. With deepest sympathy and love. John and Donna Rose Loan
