Carl was my Scoutmaster for one year until my family moved to Dahlgren. I have a vivid memory of him leading our troop on a round trip bike ride from CB to Westmoreland State Park and back. It was a big adventure for me! I also remember him being a very compassionate man. One night the scouts were playing “kick the can” and it was my turn to guard the can. Being one of the youngest scouts, lots of guys managed to kick the can without me being able to find anyone. Carl became concerned that I might be getting discouraged so he came to me and asked if I wanted him to switch me with one of the other boys. That little act of compassion must have made a big impression on me because I have always remembered it. RIP Carl, you were a positive influence on a lot of young scouts.
