Heard today from a mutual friend on Phil’s passing. Phil was a wonderful individual …personally and professionally. Let me relate an episode between us…Phil was on the west coast for one of his business gigs and as usual I had UCLA football game tickets at the Rose Bowl. I asked him if he wanted to go and, if so, I’d pick him up at his sister’s place and go to the game in my mustang convertible…we had a ball! God Bless you Phil

I am going to miss Phil. He was one of a kind. He had a big heart and loved life. I first me Phil through Paul Hagen. I had many adventures with Phil and we stayed in touch over the years. We used to go rafting down the American River in Sacramento on weekends in 1971 when Phil was stationed at Mather Air Force Base. The Sacramento River meets the American River in Sacramento at Discovery Park. There are rapids there. One day a father was rafting through there with his two kids. The kids were tossed out of the raft with their life jackets on. The dad dove in and lifted the two kids back in the raft but went underwater and was drowning. Phil was on shore, dove in, pulled the guy to shore, and essentially saved the guy\’s life. The guy thanked Phil, and Phil\’s response was, \” Don\’t thank me buddy, thank the Air Force\”. This was during the Vietnam war era and military folks were not always popular. I will miss Phil\’s laugh and his energy. He also made great spaghetti!

To all the family – So very sorry for the loss of your incredible dad. You are each gifted because of his strength and determination that you become all that you could be. Indeed Phil was more than he could be, defying odds and winning! The ultimate risk-taker, he showed us all how important trusting in oneself is to success in life. His contributions to his community were many. His love of family insurmountable. Lifting prayers for you all.

Phil was a very kind and caring neighbor and friend. I will always have fond memories of him walking his pack on Laurel Lane. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear ones: There are so many things you must be feeling today. I trust that what you feel most is loved, remembered and held close to many hearts because you are! Phil would most like you to get together, laugh, cry and share memories. Happy memories are the marshmallows in the s’more of life. They stick things together and taste sweet. As long as you keep your happy memories alive in your heart he will always be with you. love, carol 🙂

Visitation & Funeral Service Information

A celebration of his life will be held at the river on his favorite holiday, the 4th of July, for close family only.  Should you choose to honor his memory, please no flowers or contributions- try to throw a fishing line in the water somewhere and raise a beer to Phil (unless it’s Miller Lite- he hated Miller Lite).   He was adamant that he didn’t want people to be sad when it was his time to go, but instead reflect on the good times and raise a glass in his memory!
