We were saddened and shocked to learn of Gene’s passing. We need more people like Gene, who was one of the best. The world is a little poorer for his demise. Our condolences to his family.

I don’t know how else to do this but to tell a story. A few years ago I transferred from the Dahlgren Food Lion to the one on route 3. It wasn’t my choice and it was a difficult time for me because there’d been a lot of changes and I’ve never handled those well. It was like being in a mirror universe where everything was a little bit wrong. Then within a few days of my being there, Gene comes in with his handbasket – empty or near enough – and sees me, waves, says “hello Sean,” and that was when I knew everything was going to be okay. I looked forward to seeing him in the store, or at church. Sometimes I’d see him in his yard when I was on one of my walks. He’d always been “Mr. Clift” but I started thinking of him as my friend Gene. And I just wanted to say that in that way I guess he showed me the face of God, and I’ve never known a kinder or humbler man. I feel blessed to have known him. You all have my deepest condolences. He planted seeds of kindness all over, though. So in that sense he’s never really gone. God bless you all.

My Thoughts and Prayers are with Gene’s Families. I met Gene through Fire Department and Farm Bureau picnic. And plus I have gone to school through King George High School with families. Gene was nice guy when I seen him at the Firehouse (my dad was working at the Firehouse). Rest in Peace, Gene.

Cliff Family, we are saddened by the loss of Gene. He was one of the first people to reach out to us when we joined Trinity UMC almost 3 years ago. I described him as a Southern Gentleman who always looked so “dapper” in his Sunday attire. We will truly miss his friendship and pray for your comfort in this time. I know you must have amazing memories! Jim and Judy Dean

Dear Paula and family, Please know that you and your family are not alone during this difficult time. I have so many fond memories of your father. Growing up in King George and attending Trinity Methodist Church . Allow others to walk with you on this journey of grief. I am lifting you up in my prayers

Gene was an amazing person; helping out wherever possible. Gene and my grandfather had decades of great friendship. Gene was always considered a great family friend amongst the Clodius’s. Terribly sad to hear of his passing; but glad he is reunited with his wife, son, my grandfather, and father in heaven.
