Margaret’s son Keith and his wife Jennifer have been close friends of mine since high school at GW and her son Don was my wedding party escort at their wedding. I got to know Margaret years ago at the GW ‘Golden Friends Lunch Bunch’ and we had good times together there. The service at Quantico yesterday was very comforting. Margaret was a special lady and will be missed by so many. Terri Newmark Benton

Losing Mom and Aunt Betty Ann was difficult enough. Losing Aunt Margaret hit me very hard. I feel she is the last connection to the past. She was the “Family Historian”. She had a massive amount of knowledge of family and Alexandria history. If I had a question, she had the answer. She was also the strongest of the three sisters. She took life’s difficulties in stride. She showed courage going after her GED later in life. She always had my back and provided me with sound advice. I have fond memories of Easter Monday picnics, George Washington Day Parade after lunch at Grandma’s and, the visits to Florida with Uncle Roy. I enjoyed having them stay with me. The last time I saw all three sisters together was when they made their first airplane trip ever to come to Florida. We had so much fun laughing and reminiscing about the old days. I will miss our long talks on the phone catching up on family news. I hope the family will take comfort in knowing that she was loved by so many and is now with Uncle Roy. I will miss her dearly and I am blessed for having her in my life. She will be forever in my heart. I Love You Aunt Margaret.

I am very saddened at the passing of my Aunt Margaret. She is the last of three sisters to pass and I will miss her very much. I always enjoyed our talks about the “old days”. I can remember as far back as a little girl of her being in my life Lot’s of summers at Colonial Beach. And, I must have been a small child when I called her Morney because I couldn’t say Margaret. She was always easy going and I don’t ever remember a harsh word coming from her. Whenever I would eat a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoe soup I would think of her and I will continue to think of her whenever I eat that. When I passed on the information to my daughter, Kelly, she was saddened and then said “long live the puffs, nobody could make them like her”. Even Kelly knew Aunt Margaret could make some good puffs. I am sorry I can’t come and pay my respects to her but it’s a little difficult with us living in Florida. But, I will be there in spirit. My heart goes out to her sons and their families. So, I leave you with this, “Long live the puffs”. Love to all.

I have tried very hard to spend the day thinking about everything other than the loss and pain that I am feeling. I met Margaret when I was 15 years old and at the age of 17 I lived with her for three years. She was a wonderful mother-in-law, a wonderful grandmother and a wonderful friend. I have spent hours with her and on the phone with her. We have not always agreed on stuff, but we always talked things through. I hurt for my son and her sons and their families. I can’t say enough wonderful things about her. She lived for 92 wonderful years and I will always love and miss her. R.I.P. Margaret <3 A.K.A. Grandma Padgett. -Wendy Morris
