Dear Yarus Family, I had the privilege of driving Howard to church after his most recent fall. His mind was sharp and he made every effort to keep up his regular activities. He was a man of principles and willingly shared his opinions. He had a long, productive life. You were blessed to have him so long. Sincerest sympathy, Allen Mikszewski

Mr. Yarus was “THE” Scout Master for troop 1404. He molded so many young men into the people we are today. He taught us that hard work, completing the task, always looking forward and honor in everything you did was where you wanted to be and go. In Scouting, he taught all of us things that I am sure ALL of us from the troop STILL use to this day. With all the regional camporees and Goshen Scout came, whenever we had a question we always knew,, he had the answer,, but he had a way of pointing you in the direction so YOU could figure out the answer. When I go camping I always remember the days of being with Troop 1404 camping in great weather and freezing cole weather and Mr. Yarus being there and always will. A very proud “Hand Salute” to a fellow veteran.

Dear Family, I’m so very sorry for your loss. Howard was a great pillar of this community. I first met him in 1971 when three of his Boy Scouts invited me to come to his Troop 1404 to met him. I was new in the community and promptly signed on as an Assistant Scoutmaster. It was a joy working with Howard in this capacity. In 1973, Howard stepped down as Scoutmaster, and I became Scoutmaster of the Troop. Howard became a great consultant for me, as I grappled with disciplinary problems with some naughty boys. Howard was a very strong influence in my life as I developed my own Scout leadership skills. I’m honored and blessed to have known Howard. He was a great influence for the Scouts and me. I fee intensely for your loss and grief, since Howard was such a great part of my life. May God bless and comfort you. I’ll be praying for you. Love always, Bruce Z. Hollmann (“Ziggy”)

Sorry for the loss of your Dad. He made it longer than my Mom who passed last year at 95. He was always so tolerant of us kids and all of our Girl Scout antics that your Mom supervised. Thinking of you.

When I first attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Howard was the first parishioner I met. He sat in the Pew in front of me and was so welcoming . He always made a point of greeting me warmly every week. I will always remember him as an Ambassador for St. Paul’s. Rest in peace Howard. You work on earth is done. My condolences to each of his family members and to all who will miss him.

At times like this, it is difficult to know what to say that will help. Because of that, I am so grateful for the lesson my daddy taught me long ago. He said that as long as we keep the happy memories of our loved ones close in our heart and share them with others, they can never truly leave us. I have tested that lesson many times over the years and have always found it to be true. I am sure (like me) ya\’ll have a bounty of happy memories surrounding Howard to share and hold close. Do it. Laugh, share, cry, and remember. Also realize that grief never ends… but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness nor a lack of faith. It is the price of love. Many people loved Howard. You all remain in my prayers, for strength, peace and joy. 😉

Howard was a faithful participant of the KG Democratic Committee and his help was much appreciated. We really enjoyed hearing from him at our monthly meetings and reading the letters to the editor he drafted. I was so sorry to hear of his passing but know that his memory will be a blessing.
