No one knows me or of me I am sure, but I met Kathryn the beginning of 2020 right when covid hit and she became so important to me instantly. I want to share Our very short story….. One day ay Family dollar while trying to find some cleaning supplies because of covid starting I hear this woman speaking the next isle over asking for rubbing alcohol and baby wipes…. Her voice got to me. I froze. I knew that sound. The worry, the pain, the struggling. I could hear the cancer, and it was shortly after my moms anniversary of when she passed and this unexplainable feeling I had to walk over to her. I caught up with her as she was starting to make her way down the isle and I said “excuse me, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to ease drop but your voice reminded me of my moms who passed away from cancer a few years back and god pulled me to you. I overheard you say you need baby wipes, toilet paper, and rubbing alcohol, I have all of that at my house and more than enough to share, may i please have your address and phone number so I can send you a care package? It would mean the world to me if I could do this for you, please let me.” She was so grateful and said she would pay me for them. I told her accepting my offer is more than enough payment. We talked for a while and she was telling me about her daughter and how wonderful she was and how much she missed her. As we said our goodbyes Kathryn asked me what my name was, I said oh I’m sorry I totally forgot that part it’s Melanie! She froze. Tears started falling. I quickly walked up to her and apologized and asked her if she was okay and I didn’t mean to upset her one bit! She put her hand on my shoulder and said her daughters name is Melody and she felt god sent us both to that Family Dollar for a reason. We both started crying in Family Dollar lol. After I sent her the care package we stayed in touch. She was my rock and always called me to check up on me and made me go to the doctor for a well check (like good moms do) and that’s when I found out I was pregnant!! I was so happy to share the news with her. I was so scared and excited and she was so happy for me. I don’t know who has her number but my son was born 6/22/21, 20 days too late to meet the woman who gave me my hope back, but I sent her a photo of him and a few more messages, I knew it was too late, but I still messaged with hope. Ryker will never get to meet Kathryn, he will know her story. A good woman, Who started off as a stranger at the local family dollar.

Gone way too soon… I know Kathy loved her family especially her grandchildren. They brought her incredible joy during her debilitating health journey. Kathy, you can Rest In Peace now without any pain. I know you’ve been greeted with the open arms of your parents, daughter Melody and other siblings. You will be missed!

I am so sorry to hear about Kathy. She was one of the nicest people you’d want to meet. Every time we ran into each other she’d ask how my son was doing and they hadn’t seen each other in over 20 years. Rest In Peace.
