I found Dickie’s obituary purely by chance, so it was surely meant to be. I grew up next door with Dickie, Richard and Catherine on Penick Road in Richmond back in the ’50’s. He was a great friend and buddy to me even though he was 10 years older and we had some great times hunting and fishing together. I even think we went fishing on Bunny’s lake in Caroline several times. Even though I have not seen him in a very long time, I still remember all the great times we had together and what a friend he was to my mom, dad and sister {Louise, Earl and Norma Alvis). All have passed away, but I remember Mary and their daughters coming to my dad’s funeral at Bethlehem Baptist Church many years ago. My wife and I live in Nashville, TN and our son family, including our twin grandchildren live in Birmingham, AL. Our sympathies to all of Dickie’s family in their loss. He was truly a special guy and know he will be missed. Mason Alvis

I worked with Mr Collins at B&W-Export Leaf. During those years I considered him as both mentor and friend. Mr Collins was highly respected in the tobacco business and was a fine man who made it clear to all that he very proud of his family. Dickie Collins left an enduring legacy of decency and loyalty for his family and former colleagues. May he rest in eternal peace. Abundant blessings for the family.

Donna, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you and your family find peace and happiness as you travel down the road of remembrance. Although it is a sad time it is also a special time as we think back and explore all of the memories we have made. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

My best friend, he was like a brother to me for almost 50 years. We shared many good times together over the years but the time I will for ever remember is we spent several days with him 2 weeks ago. Richard was a fighter and he was determined to get better so we could go back to the Eastern Shore. He was very proud of his family, Mary Was very important to him as was Rhonda, Donna and RIcky.. Macie was a special companion and he told a nurse when he was in the hospital last year that he and I shared custody of her. He will be missed by everyone that knew him especially me. Richard Rest In Peace and this is not goodby because we will be together again in a better place. Keep looking for me and I will see you when I get there. Love Harold
