I’ve never personally met Frank but in this case, I really didn’t have to in order to see that he was truly someone quite special. It was only recently when I first made Frank’s acquaintance over the phone. I called F & A Corvette and spoke with Frank a couple of different times about a Corvette he had that I was particularly interested in. From the start, Frank’s integrity, sincerity, energy and passion were apparent. Frank’s friendly and engaging personality instilled trust and was of such a degree, I began looking more forward to meeting Frank than looking at the car. Yesterday, when I spoke with his son, Frank Jr., I realized that my first impressions of his father’s character were affirmed. Interestingly, Frank Jr.’s voice and overall disposition were so similar to those of his father, I momentarily thought I was actually speaking with his father. When Frank Jr. shared the news of his father’s passing, I couldn’t help but fell a sense of profound sadness. To Frank Jr., the rest of the family, friends and acquaintances of Mr. Frank Coates III., please accept my deepest heartfelt sympathies for your loss. I would only offer the words that a very good friend once shared with me during my own time of loss, “…God doesn’t make mistakes.” Be well.

Dear Coates Family, My husband Roy Dove, during his lifetime, often mentioned his teenage friendship with ‘Bookie’ Coates. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you celebrate his life and mourn his passing. May the Lord comfort you during your time of sadness.

Our Town has lost a great example of a businessman who didn’t quit when things got tough. Frank is known around the Country as the Corvette guy, and I was always surprised when traveling and asked \”have I heard of F&A\”. Condolences to the Coates family and friends, his legacy will certainly be a fond memory to many.

Frank “Bookie” was my cousin and childhood friend! We all grew up here in Colonial Beach and went to Colonial Beach Schools! He always loved cars and lived his dream job! Gone way too soon, but will never be forgotten! He will live on through Lil’ Frank, Ashley and Hunter! My thoughts and prayers are with Candy, the family and the many friends that grieve his passing! Keep those memories close to your heart and he will be with you until you meet again in heaven! Hugs, Love and Prayers Carol Massey & Family

Candy, Lil Frank , Ashley and Hunter and all the Family Members. Tears are running down my face as I think of Big Frank. He was an icon not only in our Town, but throughout the nation. Whenever you think about great guys and Corvettes, your very first thought would be Frank. He was a wonderful person that could always make you smile. He knew every answer to any question that anyone could ask about a Corvette. Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out the Family. Our loss was Heavens gain. Love Bob and Jan Swink.

Our deepest sympathy to you, Candy, and your family for the loss of Frank. It has been a number of years since we have seen you but have thought of you many times with much fondness. Whenever we see a corvette, we always think of Frank. Pete always enjoyed Frank’s stories about his corvettes and when and/or where he had gotten them from along with their times in the Guard. We know he will be missed by all. May God keep all of you in his loving hands and help you get through this time of loss. Let all your good memories of him help sustain you. Fondly, Anne and Pete

We are saddened at the loss of Frank. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers! We will miss Frank and his warm and welcoming personality. We first met Frank in 1987 when my wife and I bought our first midyear from him. Since then we’ve been in touch many times over the years. He was always honest and in good spirits. He was a good soul in how he lived and in the family he raised. We will miss him!
