Dear Pat, While I did not know your husband, Rains, perhaps only meeting him very briefly during my five years as your principal at Caroline High School, [1995-2000], based upon my tremendous respect for who you are, i am confident that your husband was similarly a very special, wonderful human being. I am so sorry for your terrible loss, and was also told that you simultaneously have lost an aunt at this very sad time. I pray that you will some day have those very special memories and smile before the tears come from your eyes. May God help you through this terrible moment in your life. Rich Sternberg

Pat and family, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Rains. I worked with him for many years at VDOT, he was a very kind man who always spoke so proudly of his family and would go out of his way to help his friends. May God comfort you during this difficult time.

Pat Rains was a good friend. We did a lot together over the years. You both were very good to my family. I’m going to miss talking and laughing with Rains. My heart goes out to you and the family. May the Lord keep you and your family close during this difficult time. Richard Collawn and Sonia Thomas

Pat and Family, My condolences to you and your family. Raines and I worked together at VDOT, he was always laughing at his own jokes. Sometimes his jokes were a little dry, but we laughed anyway. I’ll miss seeing him drive thru to check on EB. God Bless you all ?

Pat, Tim and Keith and family: I am sorry for your loss. I worked at VDOT with Raines for many years and he always had a smile and nice greeting. He was well thought of in the office as well as with the people working in the field. May God give you strength and comfort to get through these difficult days .
