Rains M. Douglas, Jr. 82 of Bowling Green, VA, died August 17th after a brief illness. Born in Lyells, Virginia, he enjoyed the life on a farm and learned to work hard. Rains spent a long career working for the VDOT, retiring and then working for both Greely and Hanson and ATCS engineering consultants in his capacity as a construction inspector.  He was an active person who enjoyed the outdoors, completing projects, and helping his neighbors and friends.  He enjoyed traveling but was always happier to be back at home. Rains was preceded in death by his parents, Rains M Douglas, Sr. and Vivian Blake Douglas of Haynesville, VA.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Straughan Douglas, who often told people to marry a man with a sense of humor because his dry wit was the source of much joy through the years. Rains is survived by his two sons, Tim Douglas of Spotsylvania, VA, and Keith Douglas of Chicago, IL; his grandchildren, Ashley Buchanan (Brian), Damien Douglas, and Hanna Douglas; and his great-grandchildren Emma and Landon Buchanan., all of Spotsylvania.  Rains was a loving parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent who proudly kept up with their many activities and bragged about their accomplishments.  He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Ellen Kriete of Gloucester Point, his brother Raymond Douglas of Chesterfield, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, August 22 at 2 PM at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green.  The funeral service follows at 3 PM.  Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Bowling Green.
