Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintIt is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Manley Carter, 85 of Ruther Glen, announce his passing on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Carter was a devoted husband, Dad, Papa, father-in-law, brother, mentor to so very many and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Carter. Survivors include five daughters: Judy Carter, Jacqueline Marlowe and her husband, Mark Marlowe, Janice Cooper and her husband, Lee Cooper, Jeanie Cooper and her husband, Doug Cooper, Jamie Carter and her fiancé, Chris Pitts; two sisters, Diane Luck and Linda Greer; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; his dear companion of 22 years, Barbara Dalton Dunnavant and his four-legged long time companion and trusty sidekick, Kane. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manley (Tom) and Christine Carter; a sister, Eleanor Hall and a grandson, Stephen Sheets. Doug had retired from his full-time job of 40+ years as a locomotive engineer with CSX (formerly RF&P Railroad). Farming as a part-time profession was also one of his greatest passions. He truly enjoyed a fine southern home cooked meal and spending time with his family most of all.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Riverside Community Church, 20057 Teman Road, Beaverdam, VA 23015. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm Sunday, August 21, 2022. Burial will follow immediately at Riverside Community Church Cemetery, Beaverdam.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Riverside Community Church.
