Jean Newton Torres, 89, of King George County passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born January 3, 1933 to the late Michael Wallace Newton, Sr. and Alice Dorothy Clift Newton. Jean was raised in King George County where she had many friends and family members.

Jean was a member of Two River Baptist Church in King George. She worked as a civil servant where her dedication and hard work ethic lead her to Okinawa, Japan where she was not only the head Comptroller, but also the Officer in Charge “O.I.C.” at Kadena Marine Corps Base on Okinawa. Jean was the first ever female civilian Officer in Charge to ever hold this title.

After her time in Japan, she moved to San Diego, CA and served as a Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. Jean then came back home to King George County where she and her husband spent their days as golf professionals, passing on their love for golf to the younger generations for the past 20 plus years.

Jean is survived by her husband of 35 years, J. L. Torres, a grandchild Anthony Starcher, his wife Katie, and their daughter, Jean’s Great-Granddaughter, Lizzie.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael Starcher, her daughter Terri Jean Starcher, her brother Mickey Newton and her sister, Patsy Edwards.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, October 14, 2022 at Two Rivers Baptist Church, 6420 Rokeby Lane, King George, VA 22485 with burial immediately following at Potomac Baptist Church Cemetery in King George. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Storke Funeral Home, 11089 James Madison Pkwy, King George, VA 22485.
