Mary Elizabeth (Mimi) McMahon was born on April 4, 1927 in Cleveland, OH.  She was born into a large, loving Irish family who remained close as lives progressed.  At a young age, Mimi’s family moved to New Rochelle, NY, where Mimi attended elementary and high school.  Mimi graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1948 and moved to New York City where she worked for Frank E. Mason, a close confidant of Herbert Hoover.  During that time, she attended Columbia University, where she earned a Masters Degree in Education.  While at Columbia, Mimi met Naval Officer Richard (Dick) Grich. They married on October 13, 1956.

Mimi and Dick were first stationed in Honolulu, HI, where their daughter, Pam, was born.  From there they transferred to Monterey, CA, where son Richard Jr. was born.  The next duty station was San Diego, CA, where sons Bob and Tom were born.  Mimi then set up other new homes as they were sent to Huntington, NY, Virginia Beach, VA and finally Burke, VA.  As the wife of a Navy Officer, Mimi was frequently a sole parent but also taught elementary school. After moving to Burke she continued to teach and volunteered countless hours for the Navy Relief Society as a counselor.

Mimi was a selfless, kind and loving mother who focused on instilling in her children the significance of a strong value system.  She stressed the importance of education, the need for respect and the value of kindness. Her primary goal was to make her children the best they could be. She was a doting grandmother who never forgot a birthday or a holiday and was always available to travel to assist with child care as her own children started families.

Mimi and Dick moved from Burke, VA to Bedford, NH in October 2016.  Mimi Grich passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022.  She is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.  A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on December 12, 2022 at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Bedford, NH.
