Our handsome and special angel was born on 13 December in Richmond VA to Wilma Lee Pitts Nuckols and sister Candice Nuckols McLean. He was born with a rare chromosomal disorder, 9p partial deletion. JJ was a very special angel who faced many challenges due to his diagnosis, but that never prohibited JJ’s love and zest for a happy life. He made an instant impact on everyone who met him.

One of our favorite bible verses that helped us through many struggles…“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” – Philippians 4:13

JJ attended a special school program and graduated from Caroline High School. After high school, he attended The Gathering Place, an adult day program for adults with special needs. He loved attending the program and made many friends. He enjoyed their community based outings to the mall, grocery store, parks, library, movies and bowling alley. Part of the program included Arts + Crafts, and finger painting was his absolute favorite. He loved using his hands.

Music was JJ’s true passion and favorite activity. He enjoyed Christian based music to include children’s music and nursery rhymes. JJ loved to interact with people and he would reach out for your hands to play “Patty Cake.” He loved to play on his piano and electric keyboard. Most of all, he loved being with his family and gave the best hugs.

JJ will remain the brightest light in our lives as he lives on in our hearts.
