Show Obituaries Show Guestbook Show Photos QR Code PrintBorn 5 July 1936, Clyde, Ohio, and is now singing “O Lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way” with the heavenly cherubs on 21 December 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Irving Post and Elinor May Bennett Post. Being a good scholar, he enrolled at Ohio University in 1954. There he met Nancy J. Wardlow whom he married in 1956.
He transferred to Iowa State University where he graduated in1958. Chosen as a government intern, he was employed by the United States Civil Service Commission. Moving up the ladder he served the Commission in Washington DC, Cincinnati, Chicago, Dayton Ohio, St Louis, Missouri and in 1980 moved back to Washington DC. While living in Vienna, VA he shared his beautiful voice in the Wesley UMC choir and the Vienna Choral Society. He retired from his 37-year career as Chief of the Washington Area Service Center now the United States Office Personnel Management.
Upon retirement, he and Nancy moved to King George VA, where he served as president of the local AARP chapter, was a member of Dahlgren UMC and taught adult Sunday School classes, sang in the church choir and with the Masterworks Chorus at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He and Nancy spent many hours volunteering at their church, supporting the Volunteers in Mission and UMCOR missions, even traveling to Costa Rica to share their ministry. He was well known for his carpentry and woodworking skills, building many beautiful pieces of furniture. Growing garden vegetables and tending the fruit trees he loved were his hobby. He became a full-time caretaker for his wife after she suffered several strokes. He enjoyed helping others understand and become a living Christian. He was passionate about sharing the Word of God. In 2012, he earned his Doctor of Divinity which was a long-desired achievement. He was a mentor and confidant, providing wise words of wisdom to his family and friends. He supported his children’s and grandchildren’s activities in school, sports, Boy Scouts, even hiking at Philmont, and their own musical talents.
Richard leaves behind his beloved wife Nancy of 66 years, five children David Bennett Post (DeAnne) of Damascus MD, Todd McKinley Post (Kathleen) of San Antonio TX, Amy Ellen Post Adams (Kevin) of Thompsons Station TN, Brett Richard Post of Laurel MD, and Brina Marie Post of Stafford VA, ten grandchildren Deidre Marie Post Marshall (Jason), Christopher Andrew Adams, Derek Bennett Post, Erica Grayson Post Pope (Eric), Brandon Kyle Adams, Rachel Olivia Post, Sabrina Nicole Adams, Tiffany Lynn Adams, Ethan Emery Post, Trenton Khio Senavanh and two great grandchildren Rachel Marie Marshall and Elon Isaiah Marshall.
His passing leaves a huge whole in our hearts and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched along the way.

A viewing and memorial service will be held on December 27, 2022 at 4pm at Dahlgren UMC, Dahlgren VA. Reception will follow.
A private burial will be in Clyde Ohio at a later date.
