Tony Wayne Smith, 72, of King George, VA left us, surrounded by his family, on December 19, 2022 after a yearlong battle with MDS/AML, a form of leukemia. Julian Smith and Eva Edwards Smith welcomed Tony, one of nine children, on March 11, 1950, a day the world became a little brighter. Tony lived a full and warm life, filled with happiness, kindness, love and laughter. Tony served in the U. S. Navy as a submariner from 1971 to 1977.  He proudly served as a Fire Control Technician on the USS Kamehameha SSBN 642.  After his military service, he continued to support the SLBM program as a contractor for NSWC Dahlgren Division for more than 25 years. Tony was a very creative and innovative person, leaving others amazed with his work.  His talents included wood working, landscaping, home remodeling, drywall and masonry.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand, teach and give advice. Tony had a love for splitting firewood, tractors, trucks, tinkering and his “treasures”.  He had a vast knowledge of trees and their qualities and characteristics.  He was a self-taught “lumberjack” and a woodsman at heart. Tony’s personality was larger than life and touched many.  He loved to tell stories about his lifetime adventures and misadventures.  His stories, with his added animation, were always humorous, enjoyable and captivating.  He always made us laugh.  Our world gained a great friend, hard worker and a truly amazing person. In addition to his parents, Tony is preceded in death by his brothers John, Charlie and his sister Susan.  He leaves behind his beloved bride of 48 years, Roxanne, his favorite oldest daughter, Nina, his favorite youngest daughter Melissa and granddaughter Savanna.  He is also survived by his sisters Hazel, Margaret, Teresa and Julie and his brother Walter.  Many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held at Storke Funeral Home, King George Chapel on January 7, 2023.  Visitation is from 12:30 to 2:00.
