Simon M. Earl, formerly of Lexington, KY died Dec. 22, 2022 at the age of 23. He was serving in the Navy aboard the USS Ronald Reagan when he sustained a traumatic brain injury on Dec. 11th, just three days before completing his fourth and final deployment. He was due to be home in May, and was looking forward to attending college in the fall. Simon was born to Amy E. Earl of Concord, NC. (formerly of Lexington) on June 30th, 1999. In addition he is survived by a sister, Zuri A. Earl of Louisville, KY; an uncle, J Matt Earl ( Carter) of Great Barrington MASS; an aunt Sarah E Koch (Michael); and 3 cousins, Nigel Koch, Sophie Koch, and Emilia Koch, all of Washington DC. ; and maternal grandparents, James and Carol Earl of Lexington. Simon attended Fayette County schools and Trinity Christian Academy in Lexington. He joined the Navy in 2018 , and had just been promoted to the rank of P0-2 a few weeks prior to his death. He was also voted MVP of ABE by his fellow sailors following his 3rd deployment. Simon was known and loved by all who knew him as someone who persevered in the face of adversity, and excelled in every challenge he faced. His wit and fun loving personality will be remembered by all those who called him “friend”. He will be greatly missed, but his love and “light” will live on in all our lives. A memorial service will be held at Tate’s Crook Presbyterian Church, where Simon was a member, on January 21st at 11:00 AM, and will be preceded by visitation at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Wounded Warrior Foundation ” or “The Fisher House Program”.
