He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Rob Pitts of Midlothian and two grandchildren, Meredith Mann of Brooklyn, NY and Marshall Pitts of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Edith Hayes Doughten.
Buddy was born in Richlands, VA. He was a farmer in Essex County for over 40 years. He loved the land and outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as softball, basketball and tennis. But, after retiring in 2002, he devoted his spare time to golf, his great love. He was a member of two local golf clubs and enjoyed playing regularly and in tournaments with his golf buddies.
Otis was a graduate of the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served as a Lay Leader and Deacon, and also attended Enon Baptist Church. He was previously a volunteer in a local correctional facilities ministry and a member of Gideons International for many years. Buddy was a resident of Morningside of Bellgrade-Assisted Living for the past four years. The family wishes to thank his caregivers there and those with At Home Care Hospice.
A service celebrating Buddy’s life will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Champlain, VA followed by interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
