Rebecca Elnora Clarke, affectionately known as ‘Clossie’ or ‘Becky’ was born on May 14, 1948, in Central Point, Virginia to the late Algia B. Clarke, Sr. and Lillian R. Clarke. God in His divine wisdom, called her into eternal rest on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at home where she lived with her sister.
At an early age, Becky was baptized in Byrd’s Mill Pond and became a member of St. Stephen’s Baptist Church.
Becky attended Caroline County Public Schools, graduating in 1968. She attended the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Virginia after graduating from high school.
From the time she was born to her death she lived in Central Point, moving three times but never more than a mile or two from where she was born. She did not require much to be happy. Becky was most content and relaxed just being at home. However, she did travel to different cities and landmarks in Maryland and Virginia with a friend, visited her aunt and uncle in Lexington, Massachusetts in 2021 and enjoyed spending summer vacations in Virginia Beach with her sisters. Becky’s happiest times were spent at home with her late mother, spending time with her siblings, (especially her youngest sister, Glenda), and talking to friends and family over the phone.
Becky was a woman of few words. She did more listening than talking, always quietly and tastefully paying close attention to details. Becky had the ability to see, hear or read information and retain it. When needed she could recall names, dates, times, telephone numbers and events with extreme precision. You could ask her what day or year an event took place or when a birthday, wedding, graduation, or death occurred, and she could tell you quickly and correctly. Becky’s detailed recollection was not limited to immediate family members but anyone, past or present.
Becky was an avid reader. Fictional or non-fictional, a mystery or a romance novel, she loved to read. Daily she would read multiple devotionals to include In Touch by Dr. Charles Stanley; Our Daily Bread; Mornings with Jesus, published by Guidepost and Open Windows by Lifeway Publications. Becky also enjoyed Word Search games and playing games on her IPAD and KINDLE. She liked watching Turner Classics and Lifetime movies, game shows and the reality television documentary, COPS. Becky had a fondness for Country music, two of her favorite artists were Charlie Pride and Bradley Walker. Becky did not require fancy or expensive things to be happy. It was the small, insignificant things that brought her joy such as wearing her favorite color, yellow; wearing and receiving hooped earrings as gifts and collecting stuffed monkeys.
Becky leaves to cherish her loving memory, three sisters, Florence Hodges of Fredericksburg, VA, Sandra Ware (Earl) of Tappahannock, VA and Glenda Rinaldi of Central Point, VA whom she lived with since 2016; one brother, A. Bernard Clarke (Helen) of Chesterfield, VA; two god brothers, Sheriff Arnie Holmes of Tappahannock, VA and Mark Loving of Milford, VA; three aunts, Virginia Ali of Washington D.C., Mary Fraser (James) of Lexington, MA, and Gloria Rollins of Milford, VA; one paternal uncle, William Reynolds of Mechanicsville, VA; Special friends, Catherine Lucas, Rose West, Gloria Rollins, Lewis Jeter and two special telephone buddies, Mrs. Susie Woolfolk and Grada Byrd and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
