In loving memory of Arlene Askland Mills of Ruther Glen, Va who peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Born on August 27, 1953, in Uniondale, New York, she was the daughter of Edmund and Irene Askland. Arlene later moved and settled in Boca Raton, FL, where she attended and graduated from Boca Raton High School. It was in Florida where she started her career with the City of Delray Beach.

In Florida, she met Theodore D. ‘Ted’ Mills through her best friend, Sandee Mills, and they relocated to Caroline County, VA, where they united in marriage. Arlene dedicated 26 years to the Caroline County Planning and Building Department. Upon retirement, she returned to Florida, founding her own successful Notary and Signing Agent business.

Volunteering was a significant part of Arlene’s life, with many years devoted to the Humane Society of Caroline County. She had a deep love for the beach, enjoyed island travels, cherished cruise adventures and spending time with her beloved pets. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arlene is preceded in death by her loving husband, Theodore D. “Ted” Mills, parents Edmund Askland Sr. and Irene Julia Askland, brother David Askland and great grandson Brison W. Sims. She leaves behind cherished memories with her children, Kimberly Joseph (Tut), Anthony “Tony” Mills, Tanisha Middlebrook (Earnie), and Trina Donald (Chris).

She is also survived by her brother Edmund Askland, sister Susan Poole, sister-in-law Sandee Mills, two grandchildren, Brittany S. Woolfolk and Jared D. Selph, and five great-grandchildren: Briya Nibblins, Aiden Selph, Bridan Woolfolk, Bri’ella Woolfolk, and Milo Selph.

Arlene is fondly remembered by nieces and nephew: Jodi Marcis, Dennis Askland, Jill McCluskey, Melissa Ducote, Alison Poole, and Casi Wood Allen. Her beloved pets, Nikki (now adopted by her daughter Kimberly), Lacey and Kitty (now adopted by her sister Susan), and Kayla (now adopted by her sister-in-law Sandee), also hold a special place in her heart.
