Cynthia was born and raised in Bergen County, NJ, and moved to Ladysmith, VA, in 2005 after her beloved grandson was born. Cynthia always worked doing data entry, but that was not who she was; she was a servant. She was a divorced, single mom working multiple jobs to raise her son, and still, she found the time to do what she loved to do…help others. As a single mom, she also found the time to be a member of the Demarest Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Haworth Police Auxiliary. After she moved to Virginia, she loved to hang out with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson at Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department, where she earned the nickname “Fire Department Grandma”. She loved that nickname and became a grandmother to everyone at Frog Level. She eventually joined the department, and her proudest accomplishment in life was becoming a volunteer EMT and helping people on a whole other level.
Cynthia is survived by her son, Charles Griffin; daughter-in-law, Ann Griffin and their son Arthur (AJ) Griffin; brother, Joseph Weingarten; sister, Darlean Egan, and two nieces, Amanda and Mariah Weingarten, as well as her “adopted” stepsons, Phillip Bradley, Jay Bradley, Jason Griffin, Michael Griffin and their wives and children and finally all of the firefighters that she “adopted” at Frog Level.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Frog level Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frog Level Fire Department, P. O. Box 201, Hanover, VA. 23069.
