She was born on September 3rd, 1942, in Kenly, NC to Glenn and Thelma Edgerton.
Nina worked as a paralegal/legal assistant for the Virginia Attorney General’s office and after transferring, retired from the Alcohol Beverage Control board as a paralegal/legal assistant with the state of Virginia in 2004. Shortly thereafter, she took a position at St. Mary’s Catholic Church as the office manager until 2010.
In 1984, along with her husband Frank, Nina began working with Catholic Charities and the Refugee Resettlement Program serving the unaccompanied minors. She and Frank opened their home to over 30 foster children starting in 1984 and continued fostering for the next 25 years, providing children from all over the world with a home. In the mid-90’s, they also became involved with the settlement of families from Bosnia.
Always smiling and laughing, Nina had a fantastic sense of humor and many of her escapades remain favorite stories of those who knew her. She was famous for her warm hugs, ready smiles, and making sure that no one went hungry. Nina consistently held that her family and friends were the most important priority in her life.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Thelma, her brothers Robert, Glenn, Bill, and, and her daughter Linda Elizabeth Earley. Nina is survived by her husband and love of her life, Frank Leaming, son Erik Earley (Bonnie Settle-Brown), daughter Dawn Leaming (Erik Pruett), granddaughter Remy Leaming, sister Linda Pittman, brother Michael Edgerton, many foster children/grandchildren, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. During her 81 years, Nina lived her life in service of others, leading the way with light and love with her unyielding faith.
