Evelyn Goodman Selph, 97, died at her home in Virginia Beach on July 27, 2024.  She was born February 22, 1927 in Partlow, VA to Bryan May and Bessie Sacra Goodman.  Evelyn grew up on a farm and graduated from Spotsylvania High School.  She worked for the US Internal Revenue System in Washington, D.C. in her early years.  She created a family with her husband, Lewis D. Selph, and moved with him to various eastern US locations following America’s industrial growth from 1953 to 1972, finally settling in Chesterfield County, VA.  When her children moved away, she became a school bus driver for Chesterfield County…growing up on that Partlow farm had taught her how to drive with a stick shift and this skill was exactly what the local school system needed.  After Lewis passed away, she moved to Virginia Beach to be closer to her immediate family. To her grandchildren, she was Nana, who always gave excellent advice, had a spitfire personality and an unwavering defense of her grandchildren in any situation. Her advice and dry wit will be sorely missed. Evelyn is survived by her two children, Bryan L. Selph and Lisa S. Kyriakides (husband Christos); three grandchildren, Christina, Paul, and Ariana Kyriakides; and one brother, Bryan K. Goodman. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis D. Selph; three sisters, Jean Goodman Johnson, Doris G. Eagar, Audrey G. Edenton; and a brother, W. Lewis Goodman. The family will receive friends at 2 pm Friday, August 2nd at Storke Funeral Home, 111 S. Main Street, Bowling Green, VA 22427 with a service at 3pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Selph Family Cemetery on Selph Lane, Bowling Green, VA.
