Barbara Fisher Anthony, of Colonial Beach, joined the kingdom of Heaven Saturday August 24th, after suffering a massive heart attack. Despite all efforts to return her whole to her family, God had other plans. At the gates to meet her were her parents, “Doc” & Barbara Fisher, brother “Bucky” Hester, & her dear sister Fran Harris. The reunion, we are sure, was a glorious one! Barbara was a spiritual and faithful woman who loved Jesus Christ. She was a proud 4th generation member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Barbara’s selfless nature was evident to the end has her organs and tissue were donated to assist many others. Born in 1955 at St. Barbara’s clinic in Colonial Beach, and remaining a town resident throughout these many years, offered her the self-declared title of being a true “Colonial Beacher.” In 1976, she married the love of her life, Gary Lee Anthony. Their union was blessed with their pride and joy, a daughter, Erin Brooke. They are left behind to mourn her earthly loss and cherish her memory in addition to, son-in-law Glen Bartley, and her precious grandchildren Annaliese Brooke, age 7, and William Anthony, age 5. Also surviving are her siblings Rosemary Gill and David Fisher, and their families. Barbara was a hard worker, starting her career at Hall’s supermarket. She then served more than 30 years in the world of government contracting and federal service in Dahlgren, VA. She retired in February 2023 from the NSWCDD comptroller department. She was excited to enter this new chapter of her life and focus on her true passion – art! Barbara was a self-taught but talented artist working in clay, acrylics, watercolors and more! There were few artistic tasks she couldn’t conquer. Most recently, Barbara returned to Hall’s supermarket to work in the deli. She loved the opportunity because it was filled with people and lively conversation, two things on which Barbara thrived. Throughout her life she served many organizations as a volunteer, most recently working with the Colonial Beach Historical Society to spread her love of the birthplace she adored. She waited many years for grandchildren to bless her life and she seized every opportunity to spend time with them once they did! They will remember their “Geeg” for her loving and kind nature but also for her makeover sessions, pie and cookie baking, shared vacations, art projects, hot tub swims, & bike rides. The void she leaves behind is immeasurable. There was not a day that passed when she did not share the love she had for her family! She seized every moment to tell them how proud she was of them! A service in memory of Barbara will be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Colonial Beach, 1pm on October 4th, 2024 with the Rev. David P. Casey officiating. A celebration of life in the church’s parish hall will immediately follow. The family asks that you wear bright colors to honor Barbara’s memory. She loved color, as reflected in her many beautiful paintings. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Building Fund.
