William Arthur (Bill) Wick, Jr. died peacefully on August 29, 2024 in Richmond, Virginia at 83 years of age. Bill and his wife Nancy had been married for 48 years when Nancy passed away in 2021. They spent their last 28 years together in the Town of Port Royal in Caroline County, Virginia.   Bill was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia.  He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Public Health Education from West Virginia State College, and had a long career as a substance abuse educator, consultant, and developer of programs to address substance abuse in the railroad industry.  Bill was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for his family and friends.  Bill had a deep appreciation for big band, jazz and blues music and always had records playing at the house. Bill loved to tell a good story and had a great laugh.   Bill and his wife Nancy shared a love of dogs, antiques, historic architecture, art and history. Bill served on Port Royal Town Council and as the Town Manager, and helped secure several grants and funding opportunities for the Town.  Bill and Nancy were members of Historic Port Royal and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and Bill completed several terms on the church Vestry and served as a Trustee.  He was a lay leader and served as a lector and a chalice bearer for many years.  On the Diocesan level, he served as the Region I (now the Fredericksburg Region) President and made many friends throughout the Diocese of Virginia.  Throughout his life, Bill generously shared his talents wherever he went.   Bill was preceded in death by his wife Nancy and his stepson, Clay Jeter. Bill leaves behind his sister Dede Wilpizeske of Tucson, Arizona; stepson Garrett Jeter of Pineville, Louisiana; and stepson David Jeter, daughter in law Erica Jeter, and grandson Clay – all of Richmond, Virginia. The family wishes to express thanks to the caring staff of Ginter Hall South in Richmond for their support during Bill’s final years, and to Bill and Nancy’s dear friends who helped and cared for Bill and Nancy in their final years in Port Royal.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at St Peter’s Episcopal Church, 823 Water St, Port Royal, VA  22535.  Reception to follow.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Port Royal, which was Bill’s spiritual home for many years – and where he will be laid to rest beside Nancy.
